Three months later the process has stopped, because nobody accounted for the fact that the client team has other jobs and no habit of doing this one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capability transfers when the receiving team does the work while support is still available, not when they are shown how it is done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why it happens, five levels down<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The in-house process stops a few months after handover.<\/strong>Why? It was never actually run by the client team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>They were trained but did not practise.<\/strong>Why? Handover was scheduled as an event at the end.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>It was treated as a final deliverable.<\/strong>Why? The commercial model rewards delivery, not transfer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Transfer is not what the engagement was sold on.<\/strong>Why? Nobody defined independence as a success measure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Independence was never a deliverable.<\/strong>Root cause. Make it one and the engagement is designed differently from day one.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The diagnostic<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Run this before planning any work. It tells you whether this is your constraint or whether something else is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ask who will do this work and how many hours a week they genuinely have.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check whether approval chains would block the cadence you are proposing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Confirm the team has access to every tool in their own names.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check whether any documentation exists that someone could follow without asking a question.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify what happens when the trained person leaves.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask the team what they think their job is.
